Ri Yong-ho (born October 5, 1942 in T'ongch'ŏn-gun County , Kōgendō Sub - Province, Chōsen Province , former Japanese Empire , now North Korea ) was Chief of Staff of the North Korean Army from 2009 to 2012 .

Life

Ri Yong-ho joined the Korean People's Army in 1959 and graduated from Kim-Il-sung Military University . He did not appear until 2002 when he was appointed general . His next mention by the North Korean news agency KCNA will only be found with his appointment as chairman of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army in 2009. Before that, he is said to have commanded the defense forces of Pyongyang.

He was also on the III. PdAK party conference appointed deputy Kim Jong-ils to the central military commission of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK). He was next to Kim Jong-un , Kim Jong-il's successor, one of two deputies in this body. Shortly before this party conference, he was also appointed Deputy Marshal of the Korean People's Army. He was also appointed to the Presidium of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the PdAK.

During the party conference and a military parade to mark the Workers' Party's 65th birthday, Ri was seen repeatedly at Kim Jong-uns's side.

In July 2012, according to the North Korean state media, Ri was dismissed for health reasons.
