The Am Schüttel parish church is a Roman Catholic parish church in the 2nd district of Vienna Leopoldstadt in the Pratercottage district (between the Danube Canal and the Prater ) at Rustenschacherallee 14 (main entrance to the church). The parish (Address: Böcklinstraße 31) is located in the Dean's Office 3 of the Archdiocese of Vienna belonging city Vicariate Vienna . It is consecrated to Jesus Christ as Savior .

history

It was built from 1960 to 1962 by Karl Raimund Lorenz and Oktavian Orba . The building replaced an older, smaller church, which was transferred from Favoriten in 1926 and came from a camp for war wounded. In 1946 it was elevated to a parish church.

Since November 29, 2015, the Am Schüttel parish has formed the development area "Am Donaukanal" as part of the structural process of the Archdiocese of Vienna , together with the parishes of Erdberg , Neuerdberg and St. Othmar unter den Weißgerbern .

architecture

It is a reinforced concrete building on a rectangular floor plan with a free-standing bell tower, which is connected to both the church building and the rectory via a pergola . The entrance front and choir wall have clinker cladding , the side walls are rhythmically structured by concrete and glass bricks.

Furnishing

The interior consists of a high hall with a gallery which is structured by struts.

The Stations of the Cross glass windows are by Franz Déed , the windows on the staircase and other glass work by Max Heilmann . The altar cross is a cloisonné work by Gertrude Stöhr , in the sacrament chapel there is also a statue of the Madonna by Paul Peschke and in another side chapel there is a tapestry by Hermine Aichenegg .

organ

The church was in 1926 with a single manual , 6 register large electro-pneumatic organ by Johann M. Kauffmann equipped. In 1973 the church received an electro-pneumatic organ built by Rudolf Novak , which had 16 stops, including 4 extracts , on two manuals and a pedal . In 2012 the same was transferred to the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Mackovec Cakovec in Croatia and replaced by an organ comprising 39 stops on three manuals and pedal, built in 1961 by Karl Schuke for the New Paul Church in Essen ; the transfer was carried out by organ builder Willi Peter / Ekkehard Fehl .
