The Parish Church Am Tabor is a Roman Catholic parish church in the second district of Vienna Leopoldstadt at the Hochstetter Gasse 1. The parish is in the deanery 2/20 of the Archdiocese of Vienna belonging Vicariate Vienna City . It is the feast resurrection of Christ ordained . The building is a listed building .

history

Emergency Church Rueppgasse

On the initiative of Prelate Josef Gorbach , who became rector of the church on March 1, 1935, architect Clemens Holzmeister built an emergency service by converting a former factory building at Rueppgasse 33. The church was consecrated by Archbishop Cardinal Theodor Innitzer on March 2nd, 1935. After Gorbach fled to Palestine in the course of the annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany, Father Leo Hesler became rector on June 2nd, 1938. In 1939 the church was elevated to a parish. In the last days of the war the church was completely destroyed. Reconstruction of the church began in 1946 and was not completed until 1954.

Church Am Tabor Hochstettergasse

Since the emergency church was too small and there was no space for a parish center, the architect Ladislaus Hruska began planning a new church in Hochstettergasse as early as 1952 , with eight designs being made because, on the one hand, there was a requirement to place the church in the middle of one To situate the residential complex between two five-storey tracts and at the same time to gain daylight for the centrally integrated church space with suitable lighting. In 1967, construction work on today's church building finally began.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is dominated by a large crucifix made by Peter Sellemond's wood carving art . The tabernacle stone made of Krastal smoke crystal comes from the sculptor Günther Kraus. Georg Zauner designed the relief, stations of the cross and baptismal font. The organ was built from 1978 to 1980 by the Upper Austrian Orgelbauanstalt St. Florian and has 19 stops on 2 manuals and pedal . The facade was designed by Arik Brauer in 1996 .
