Ribier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The red wine variety Ribier comes from France and is found there mainly in the Ardèche department . In the past it was very popular in the Rhône wine-growing region in the areas around Saint-Péray and Privas . In 1979, however, only three hectares of vineyards were raised.

Despite the corresponding synonyms, it is not related to the Alphonse-Lavallée and Brun Fourca grape varieties . The assumption of a relationship with the variety Counoise also turned out to be untenable. The Ribier variety, which is widespread in California (→ Viticulture in California ), is the Alphonse-Lavallée variety.

The late ripening variety produces light and pleasant wines that lack color. It was often mixed with the Syrah grape in the past .

Synonyms

The Ribier grape is also known under the names of Petit Ribier, Petit Rouvier, Revier d'Anjou and Rivier.
