Ricardo Gallego Redondo (born February 8, 1959 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish football player .
Career
Ricardo Gallego began his career in Real Madrid's youth. With the second team Castilla CF he surprisingly reached the cup final in the 1979/80 season , but after victories against well-known teams such as Racing Santander and the then first division Hércules CF , Athletic Bilbao , Real Sociedad and Sporting Gijón, they lost in the final against the first squad of Real Madrid 6-1. In 1980 he was accepted into the first team, but a ligament injury meant that he rarely got a chance and was unable to take part in the final of the 1980/81 European Cup against Liverpool , which was lost 1-0. After this setback, however, he quickly gained a regular place in midfield and as a Libero for Real Madrid . In his nine years with the club, he won four championships, two UEFA cups, two Spanish cups and a league cup. In 1989 he left the Madrid club and moved to Udinese Calcio where he played one season before returning to the Spanish capital for the then second division club Rayo Vallecano . After he reached promotion to the Primera División under coach José Antonio Camacho , he resigned. He is currently working for Real Madrid in the administration of the VIP boxes.
National team
With the Spanish national team , Gallego played the European Championship finals in 1984 and 1988 and the World Cup finals in 1982 and 1986 . His greatest success here was his participation in the finals at the European Football Championship in France in 1984 , where they ultimately lost 2-0 to the host country.
