Wagner Festival Leipzig

The Wagner-season Leipzig are a week around the anniversary of the composer's annual Richard Wagner held cultural event in Leipzig .

character

The Wagner Festival Leipzig wants to remember the composer who was born in Leipzig with a variety of multimedia events. In addition to music, the events also focus on the composer's life and work with readings, exhibitions and discussions. They take place in different locations, including the Gewandhaus , the Thomaskirche , the Museum of Fine Arts , the Opera House and the Leipzig Playhouse. In addition, it is important for the concept of the Leipzig Wagner Festival to include unusual venues such as disused industrial buildings, cinemas and other places used by the city's off-scene. The programmatic variety ranges from opera to cabaret and happenings.

In the meantime, the Wagner Festival Leipzig has firmly established itself in the city's musical life - with its youthful, unconventional character, alongside the Leipzig Bach Festival and the Mendelssohn Festival, it is an annual highlight of Leipzig's festival culture. From 2006 to 2010 the number of visitors roughly doubled every year.
