Richard Štochl (born December 17, 1975 in Michalovce , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak handball goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and appears for the Slovak national team.
Career
The 2.00 m tall and 105 kg heavy goalkeeper began playing handball in his hometown at Zempmilk Michalovce. At the age of 19 he switched to HT Tatran Prešov . In 1998 he went to HK VSŽ Košice, where he won the championship and the cup. In November 1999 he moved to ŠKP Sečovce, with whom he won the championship in 2000 and 2001. From 2001 to 2009 he played in Hungary for Dunaferr SE , with a short detour to MKB Veszprém 2006. Then he was signed by the Slovenian top club RK Celje , with whom he celebrated the 2010 championship and cup. After only one season he signed with the French club Montpellier AHB . There he won the championship in 2011 and 2012 and the cup in 2012. He then went to the Russian series champion Medvedi Chekhov and was again champion and cup winner. Due to the financial difficulties of the Chekhov bears , he joined the Ukrainian champion HK Motor Zaporizhia in the summer of 2013 , with whom he won the championship in 2014. In October 2015, Štochl joined the German Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen , for whom he ran until December 31, 2015.
With the Slovak national team , Štochl took part in the 2009 and 2011 world championships and the 2006 , 2008 and 2012 European championships. In total, he played at least 229 international matches and scored seven goals. (As of January 15, 2014)
