Richard Biringer (born April 24, 1877 in Höchst am Main , † October 25, 1947 there ) was a Frankfurt draftsman, painter, medalist and sculptor.

Life

After elementary school Biringer began an apprenticeship as an art fitter . In 1896 he began training at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Frankfurt and then worked as an ornament draftsman from 1900 to 1902 . Between 1902 and 1905 Biringer then studied at the Städel Art Institute . He then continued his studies with Hermann Groeber in Munich, where he stayed until 1910. After studying for two more years in Karlsruhe, Biringer returned to Höchst in 1912 and founded his own studio in neighboring Frankfurt.

Through the experiences of the First World War , Biringer became depressed. The early death of his wife Lina Biringer, b. Neuser, in January 1921, his depression worsened . He largely withdrew from social life. Nevertheless, he looked for artistic inspiration during study visits to Italy, Tyrol, Switzerland and France.

The beginning of World War II plunged Biringer again into depression, as can be seen from his correspondence with friends. In 1943 he suffered a first stroke , which severely weakened his health. Biringer died a few days after a second stroke in October 1947. He was buried in the Kurmainzer Friedhof in Höchst.

The artist, who was also internationally known during his lifetime, was forgotten after his death.

The Richard-Biringer-Weg in Unterliederbach was named after Biringer .

Biringer designed medals and designed ex-libris , he worked as an industrial draftsman and sculptor. As a painter and draftsman, he paid particular attention to his hometown Höchst, which he captured in many pictures. This earned him the honorary title of "Highest Homeland Painter". As a sculptor, Biringer created a number of bronze sculptures and reliefs .

In his industrial paintings he mainly dealt with the Hoechst paintworks , whose systems and working environment he depicted. One of Biringer's exhibitions in 1925 said:

In the graphic cabinet of the Trittler art dealer, R. Biringer from Frankfurt is currently exhibiting a series of views from the Höchst color works, which serve hardly less as a collection than as a source work for later generations.

Works by Biringer, including a bronze tiger head, are on display in the Städel Museum in Frankfurt. Other of his works are in the Frankfurt Historical Museum . Plaques and medals designed by Biringer were purchased by the International Medal Collection in Paris and the Federal Collection in Vienna , among others .

Biringer's work was criticized because the artist had been a member of the NSDAP since 1933 and carried out several commissioned works for the National Socialists in Frankfurt.
