Richard Caldicott

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Caldicott (* 1962 in Leicester , England ) is an English photographer who lives and works in London .

Life

Caldicott has been involved in photography , painting and sculpture for more than 15 years . The process of creation and its questioning is a central theme for him. In terms of art history, his works are in a dialogue with Donald Judd's “specific object” category : an object that is neither painting nor sculpture and thus defies any form of categorization.

In the past, Caldicott built everyday plastic objects into sculptures in an empty, colored room and photographed them as pure, abstract forms. In Caldicott's new work, photography contains neither subject nor object , it only consists of a kind of construction. He builds his own sculpture collages and photographs them. In this way photography is elevated to an independent object. His works are represented in many public collections such as the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Collection or the Sir Elton John Collection and the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
