Richard Giese (writer)

Richard Giese (born February 2, 1890 in Warlow ; † April 5, 1965 ibid) was a German writer and poet from the Griesen area who wrote primarily in Low German .

Life

After attending primary school in his home village, he attended the teachers' college in Neukloster . From 1909 he worked as a teacher in Wöbbelin , Warlow and from 1912 in Rostock, where he lived until 1926 after a short break in the First World War. He worked as a teacher in Laage for a year before retiring in 1927. He returned to Warlow and worked as a freelance writer. In the same year his first poems appeared in the Mecklenburg monthly magazine . In 1929 he married. After the outbreak of the Second World War, he was conscripted and worked as a teacher again. After the Second World War he took up his work as a teacher in Warlow and Ludwigslust again in 1949 . In 1948 a Hamburg publisher published a book, Zwei Jahresringe, with poems in High and Low German, which was not a success. A number of stories and poems by Giese appeared in magazines in the 1950s. Giese retired in 1958 and died in the house where he was born in 1965. In 1989 the Rostock Hinstorff Verlag brought out a collection of poems and prose.

Giese's birthplace in Warlow is a listed building, as is his grave in the local cemetery.
