Richard Jakob Petraschke

Richard Jakob Petraschke (born March 26, 1885 in Schaffhausen ; † November 19, 1937 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German - Swiss sculptor , medalist , painter and restorer .

Life

Petraschke was the son of the photographer Richard Petraschke. From 1900 to 1904 he attended the art school of the Technikum in Winterthur , where he obtained a diploma as a drawing teacher. From 1905 he was trained in Augusto Varnesi's studio in Darmstadt , where he stayed until 1913. Together with Varnesi, he restored the figural decorations on the altar of the Michaeliskirche in Hamburg . In 1913 Petraschke opened his own workshop in Frankfurt-Bornheim, and in 1917 he moved into a studio in the Schopenhauerhaus .

Petraschke mainly created portrait busts and medals and worked as a restorer for Frankfurt museums. In 1918 he received First Prize for a plaque from the Cäcilien Choral Society, as well as for a design of a fountain statue for Schaffhausen in 1923. In 1924 he married the violinist Margret Kauffmann from Frankfurt. Petraschke was a member of the Künstlerbund, the Sculpture Association of Frankfurt Artists and the Frankfurt Artists Society.
