Career

Richard Widmer grew up in Baach, a district of the Zwiefalten community on the southern edge of the Swabian Alb. He is currently starting for the Post-SV Tübingen, but is not a member.

World Champion Triple Ultratriathlon (IUTA) 2014

In July 2014 he ran his first triple ultratriathlon at the World Championships in Lensahn, Schleswig-Holstein, and immediately won with a time of 34:39:02 h.

In 2015 he completed the triple ultratriathlon in Lensahn again, clearly undercutting his time from the previous year with 33:05:16 and again crossed the finish line with a large margin. In September 2015, Widmer was number 1 in the IUTA World Cup ranking with 255 points. In July 2016 he won the Triple Ultra Triathlon Lensahn for the third time in a row (11.4 km swimming, 540 km cycling and 126.6 km running).

Since his wedding in May 2017, he started as Richard Jung. In July 2017, Jung finished second in Lensahn behind the Estonian Rait Ratasepp . In August 2018, the then 36-year-old was able to successfully defend his title at the swissultra triathlon and beat the world record set by Frenchman Fabrice Lucas in the "Continuous" variant by almost two hours.
