Richard Kiepert

Richard Kiepert (born September 13, 1846 in Weimar ; † August 4, 1915 in Berlin ) was a German geographer and cartographer .

Life

After completing his academic studies, Richard Kiepert took part in the work of his father Heinrich Kiepert and also edited his academic legacy. He also published school wall maps , atlases and individual maps . Kiepert devoted himself in particular to the maps of Africa and published the German Colonial Atlas for official use in the protected areas (Berlin 1893) and a map of German East Africa .

Between 1875 and 1887 Kiepert edited the geographic-ethnographic journal Globus . Since 1877 he was the scientific director of Dietrich Reimer's cartographic institute in Berlin.

The Society for Geography in Berlin awarded Kiepert the Carl-Ritter-Medal in silver in 1908 .

Richard Kiepert died on August 4, 1915 at the age of 68 in the Fichtenhof Sanatorium in Berlin.
