Carl Ritter Medal
The Carl-Ritter-Medaille or Karl-Ritter-Medaille is an award donated by the Society for Geography in Berlin in 1878 . It was awarded until the 1980s for “significant achievements in the field of geography in continuation of the work of Carl Ritter ” (gold) or “for a first successful pioneer trip or for a meritorious geographic achievement” (silver). Between 1881 and 1956 alone, it was awarded 65 times in silver.
