Richard Kriesche

Richard Kriesche (born October 28, 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian artist, art and media theorist.

Live and act

Richard Kriesche, who was born in Vienna, works and lives in Graz . From 1958 to 1963 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Max Melcher and at the University of Vienna . In 1963 he began teaching at the higher technical federal college in Graz. From 1967 to 1968 he worked as an assistant at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In 1975 he became artistic and media pedagogical director of the newly founded AVZ (Audiovisual Center Graz). In 1976 he founded the audio-visual media department at the technical college, Austria's first school education for “new media”. From 1988–91 he was given a teaching position at the Technical University of Vienna on issues relating to “media art and new technologies”. In 1991 Kriesche was appointed to the Offenbach University of Design and entrusted with the establishment of the theory and practice of electronic image generation . From 1995–96 he took on a guest professorship at the École des beaux Arts - Paris . In 1996 he was appointed deputy head of the science department in the office of the Styrian state government and in 1998 in the cultural department. From 2003 to 2005 Kriesche worked at the Landesmuseum Joanneum Graz.

Research Grants: 1971–72 University College London, Slade; 1983–84 DAAD scholarship for a one-year work stay in Berlin; 1984 "Washington Project for the Arts" Washington; 1985-86 MIT Cambridge Boston.

Kriesche is a media artist and theorist, exhibition organizer, curator of art and science exhibitions, publisher of art magazines (pfirsich, pferscha), gallery owner (poolerie) and publicist. His artistic fields of work include photo art, video art, computer art, net art, installations, performance and multimedia art. In his works Kriesche tries to build bridges between the genetic micro-worlds and the macro-worlds of space. With his sculptures and installations, Kriesche was represented at numerous major events in the media and art sector. (Documenta, Biennale etc.)
