Richard Leupold (born August 3, 1997 in Dresden ) is a German cross-country skier .

Career

Leupold grew up in Dresden and Oslo . He has been racing for SK Dresden-Niedersedlitz since around 2004 , attended the sports high school in Oberwiesenthal and took part in U18 and U20 races in the Alpine Cup from 2012 to 2017 . At the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2015 in Steg , he came in 29th place over 7.5 km freestyle, ninth place over 10 km classic and seventh place in sprint. In the following year he finished 41st place over 10 km classic, ninth place with the relay and fifth place in the sprint at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2016 in Râşnov . In December 2017, he started in St. Ulrich am Pillersee for the first time in the Alpencup and achieved 67th place in the sprint. He made his debut in the World Cup in January 2018 in Dresden , which he finished in 63rd place in the sprint. At the U23 World Championships in Goms in 2018 , he ran to 59th place in the sprint and at the U23 World Championships in Lahti in 2019 to 52nd place in the 30 km mass start race and 12th place in the sprint. In January 2020 at the Alpencup in Campra he achieved his first podium finish in this racing series with third place in the sprint and his first World Cup points in Oberstdorf with 25th place in the sprint. The following month he became German sprint champion at the German cross-country skiing championships in Oberstdorf. At the U23 World Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal he ran on 20th place over 15 km classic, seventh place with the relay and sixth place in the sprint.
