Richard Porta , full name Richard Aníbal Porta Candelaresi , (born August 1, 1983 in Fairfield City ) is a football player with Uruguayan and Australian citizenship.

Career

society

The canguro (German: kangaroo ), 1.84 m tall striker Porta, who moved with his family from Australia to Uruguay at the age of two, began his career in 2001 at River Plate Montevideo . At the age of eleven he had already joined the youth team of this club. Since his family lived in Toledo at the time , it took him three hours a day to drive to take part in the training. At the age of 17 he made the leap to the first team. After becoming the top scorer with 19 goals in the 2007/08 season , he moved to AC Siena in Italy in January 2008 for a transfer fee of $ 3.7 million (other sources cite a transfer fee of $ 5 million) . However, Porta, who signed a five-year deal with the Italians, only played one game after Siena made a change of coach.

In the 2009/10 season he was on loan in Belenenses ranks of Lisbon and came there on eleven missions (one goal). There he fell out with the coach, which the Portuguese club accommodated, as the loan agreement included a financial compensation clause for such a case. For the 2009/10 season he returned - also on loan - to River, completed 20 games (three goals) in the Primera División and was in five games (two goals) of the Copa Sudamericana 2009 on the field, at the River Plate Montevideo advanced to the semi-finals and finally failed to LDU Quito . Porta also ran three times (one goal) in the Liguilla Pre Libertadores 2009 .

Porta moved to the following season by way of another loan to league rivals Nacional Montevideo . For the Bolsos he played a total of 18 games in the two half-series, in which he scored five goals and was able to celebrate winning the Uruguayan championship at the end. He also played in three games in the 2011 Copa Libertadores competition. In the following season he came to five more first division appearances with three goals in the Apertura before he left the club.

This was followed by a hapless engagement on loan at the Arab club Al-Wasl trained by Diego Maradona , which ended with the termination of his contract. He only scored one goal during this career phase. In February 2012, his return to Nacional was announced. With 14 hits in eleven Clausura missions in 2012, he again demonstrated his accuracy there. At the end of the season there was another national championship title.

In July 2012, Porta said goodbye again to the Persian Gulf . Despite an offer from England, he signed a financially lucrative two-year contract worth millions with the Dubai Club in the United Arab Emirates . For the Dubai Cultural Sports Club, founded in 1996, he met for the first time in the Emirates Cup on September 18, 2012 in the 2-0 win at Al Shaab Sharjah . In the first nine games for the Arab club, he scored nine goals.

For the 2013/14 season he returned to Uruguay and joined Nacional Montevideo . At the Bolsos he played 13 games in the Primera División and scored four goals. He also played twice in the 2014 Copa Libertadores (no goal). After the season he left the Montevideans again. At the beginning of August 2014 he signed a contract with the Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle . For the Ecuadorians, he played ten games (two goals) in Primera A and two games (no goal) in the 2014 Copa Sudamericana . At the beginning of December 2014 it was announced that he will play for the Peruvian club Universitario de Deportes from 2015 . However, there are no appearances for him there. On February 11, 2015, he joined the Uruguayan first division club Atlético Rentistas . For this he completed twelve top division games in the 2015 Clausura and scored two goals. In July 2015 moved to Club Atlético Cerro . There he scored five goals in 15 league appearances by the end of the season. He then left the club in July 2016 and rejoined River Plate Montevideo.

National team

Porta took part with the U-20 national team of Uruguay in the U-20 South American Championship 2003. In the course of the tournament he was used at least in the games against Brazil (January 9, 2003) and Bolivia (January 13, 2003, one goal) and scored once in the opposing goal.

In 2006 he was appointed to the senior national team for an international match against Saudi Arabia by the then national coach Gustavo Ferrín . For that game, however, Ferrín waived nominations from professionals working abroad. However, Porta did not play because the international match was canceled due to visa problems. Again he was called up for the national duel against South Africa on September 12, 2007 for the national team. Coach Óscar Tabárez limited his participation in the international match to the substitution bench.

In 2011, the national coach of the Australian team Holger Osieck  - like his predecessor Pim Verbeek - considered using Porta for the selection of the Socceroos . In 1999 Porta had already participated in a U-17 training camp of the Australian selection.

In the meantime, Porta has given up hope of playing in the Celeste and at the end of 2012 declared that it was ready to play for the Australian national team in the future.
