Richard Robinson (philosopher)

Richard Robinson (born April 12, 1902 in Watton , Norfolk , United Kingdom , † May 6, 1996 in Oxford ) was an English philosopher .

Richard Robinson studied philosophy at the Universities of Oxford and Marburg and then taught for almost 20 years at Cornell University in Ithaca , New York ( USA ) and finally for over 20 years at Oriel College , Oxford. In 1933 he married Elizabeth Pestereff.

The main research areas were logic and ancient Greek philosophy, especially Plato and Aristotle . Robinson also translated Werner Jaeger's epoch-making Aristotle book. In his work An Atheist ’s Values , Robinson shows, starting from a list of personal and political goods, that ethical and political reflection can also be carried out from an atheist perspective.
