Richard Smith (painter)

Richard Smith , CBE (born October 27, 1931 in Letchworth Garden City , Hertfordshire , † April 15, 2016 in Patchogue , Long Island ) was a British painter . He was considered an important representative of color surface painting .

Life

From 1948 to 1950 he studied at the Luton School of Art in London. 1950 to 1952 he served in the Royal Air Force in Hong Kong. 1952 to 1954 he continued his art studies at St. Alban's School of Art . 1954 to 1957 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1954 he took part in the exhibitions of the Young Contemporaries in the RBA Galleries in London. From 1957 to 1958 he was a lecturer at Hammersmith College of Art in London. In 1968 he took part in the 4th documenta in Kassel in the painting department .
