Richard Clarke Steere (born March 5, 1909 in Kansas City , † March 17, 2001 in Lanham ) was an American foil fencer .
Life
Richard Steere took part in the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , where he finished third with the team. With Hugh Alessandroni , George Calnan , Dernell Every , Joseph Levis and Frank Righeimer , he received the bronze medal.
Steere began fencing while at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and later was the captain of the US Navy fencing team . During the Second World War he served as a meteorologist on the advisory staff of General George S. Patton . In 1961 he retired with the rank of captain .
