Richard Daniel Gottfried Stein (born June 6, 1834 in Rheydt ; † 1917 in Halle (Saale) ) was a mining official and member of one of the most important trade families in the Altenkirchen district (Westerwald) .

Life

As the son of Ferdinand Stein, he was hired as a mountain trainee on December 10, 1861, and in 1864 was promoted to mountain assessor at the Bonn Mining Authority. Between 1865 and 1867 he worked as an unskilled worker in the Prussian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Public Works and then returned to Bonn. In 1872 he was appointed mountain master and mining district official in Cottbus , and in the following year he was transferred to the Kirchen mountain district in the same position .

In 1878 he was promoted to Oberbergrat and he got a job at the Oberbergamt Halle (Saale), where he was active until his retirement in 1896 and introduced several innovations in the Central German mining industry. In 1893, Stein was promoted to the Secret Mountain Ridge.

The merits of Richard Stein have so far been little researched. It was particularly significant due to its extensive collection of mining coins, which is now kept in the Moritzburg State Gallery in Halle and which was shown publicly in 1992 as part of a special exhibition.
