Richard Straube (born April 15, 1927 in Stettin ; † April 13, 2018 ) was a German pastor , author of Christian books and specialist literature, program speaker on gospel radio and speaker of numerous radio plays .

Live and act

Straube grew up with three siblings in Stettin. Before graduating from high school, he was called up to serve in the military on the Eastern Front , where he was wounded and, after several hospital stays, was transferred to Oldenburg. After the end of the war he completed training as a teacher and was then deployed in Mecklenburg. In 1948 he switched to radio play as a speaker and director for Berliner Rundfunk , where he met his future wife, a sound engineer. In 1951 the couple left for West Germany . Here they joined a regional church community and in 1956 saw a turn to the Christian faith. From 1961 both worked for Evangeliums-Rundfunk . Straube worked here as an editor and director for ten years, but was already involved with socially disadvantaged children and young people alongside his wife. After Straube had to quit radio work at the age of 42 due to a heart attack, the couple founded the Help Center pastoral care facility in 1970 as a contact point for young people with addiction problems and mental disorders in order to offer them help with a Christian background in a family-like atmosphere. Until 1992 the couple headed the work, which today looks after people with drug addiction, drug abuse and alcohol problems as well as unwanted pregnant women at different locations. Straube remained chairman of the board until 2005.

Straube worked as a speaker in numerous radio plays and children's concepts by Margret Birkenfeld and Peter van Woerden , wrote - sometimes together with his wife - his own radio plays and books and published a single as a singer-songwriter .

Richard Straube was married to his wife Brigitte, who died in 2019, from 1950 until his death. The couple lived in Biedenkopf .
