Richard Thomas Kennedy (born December 24, 1919 in Rochester , New York , † January 11, 1998 in Washington, DC ) was an American Colonel in the US Army and diplomat , who was among other things Under Secretary of State for Management between 1981 and 1982 was.

Life

After attending school, Kennedy completed a degree in economics at the University of Rochester , from which he graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics). After the United States entered World War II , he joined the US Army in 1941 and found uses in various units in the years that followed. He completed a postgraduate course in management at Harvard Business School in 1953 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). In 1961, Kennedy joined the US Department of Defense and served as a staff officer to an assistant to the Secretary of Defense until 1963. In 1971 he retired as a colonel from active military service. On February 28, 1981, Kennedy was appointed Under Secretary of State for Management by US President Ronald Reagan and held this position until December 15, 1982.
