Richard Talbot (born September 18, 1896 in Aachen ; † May 15, 1987 ibid) was a German entrepreneur and president of the Aachen Chamber of Commerce .

Live and act

The son of the Aachen wagon manufacturer Georg Talbot (1864–1948) and Eugénie Piedbœuf (1868–1921) joined the family business Waggonfabrik Talbot after completing their studies . In addition, he was elected President of the Aachen Chamber of Commerce during the difficult years from 1939 to 1941 . After the death of his father, Richard Talbot took over the management of the wagon factory as managing director. In 1975 he put this in the hands of his nephew Kurt Capellmann , son of his sister Georgette Talbot (1893-1991) and the publisher of Prestel Verlag , Paul Capellmann.

As the head of his company, he maintained a lively cooperation with RWTH Aachen University , which then made him an honorary citizen in 1957 . A year later, Talbot was still employed as Belgian honorary consul in Aachen, an office which he also held until March 18, 1975 and has since been taken over by his daughter Carlita Grass-Talbot.

Outside of his professional engagement, Talbot was closely connected to culture and equestrian sports. With a wide range of musical interests, Richard Talbot, like his father, had a lasting impact on both cultural and economic life in Aachen. From 1955 to 1973 he was chairman and later honorary chairman of the Gesellschaft der Musik- und Theaterfreunde Aachen. He was also a member of the theater and music committee of the city of Aachen. In addition, he had been a member of Club Aachener Casino since 1927 .

His main passion, however, has been equestrian since childhood, also shaped by his family. From the beginning he was a member of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) and later on its board of directors, accompanied his father at the tournaments in the Soers and was also active in riding and driving. In 1933 he was one of the admonishers and signatories of the " Memorandum on the further development of the Aachen riding, jumping and driving tournaments " after a large part of the board of directors and the association members became increasingly involved in the interests of the National Socialist government and the annual CHIO - Events for the parade of Nazi giants. However, since all appeals are no longer useful, he finally resigned from the ALRV in 1935.

A few years after the end of the Second World War, Talbot found its way back to the ALRV, also due to family tradition, and was later made an honorary member by the ALRV. His already mentioned nephew Kurt Capellmann, himself a dressage rider and father of the two internationally successful dressage riders Gina and Nadine Capellmann , continued this family tradition and was later also elected President of the ALRV.

Richard Talbot was buried in the family crypt in the Aachen East Cemetery .
