Kurt Capellmann (born March 25, 1923 in Haaren ; † December 15, 1995 in Aachen ) was a German entrepreneur and equestrian sports official.

Live and act

The son of the publisher Paul Capellmann (1887–1947) and the publisher Georgette Talbot (1893–1991), daughter of the wagon manufacturer Georg Talbot , moved with his parents to Munich in 1940, where his father had taken over the management of the Prestel publishing house . He completed his A- levels at the boarding school at Schloss Neubeuen and then joined the cavalry as a recruit . From 1942 to 1944 he took part in the Russian campaign as a brigade orderly officer and was ordered back to the army riding school in Potsdam-Krampnitz after being wounded .

After the war, Capellmann returned to his homeland and settled on Gut Heidchen in Würselen , which he took over after the war and had it rebuilt after the war damage. He expanded the estate into an agricultural equestrian center and turned increasingly to equestrian sports. Capellmann started out as a show jumper and, after 16 years of tournament sport in the S-class, specialized in dressage . He was a member of the German A-team for 32 years and won the Grand Prix Special at the CHIO Aachen in 1965 . He was trained by the chief rider of the Spanish riding school Georg Wahl .

After Capellmann was one of the founding members of the "Amateur Rider and Driver Association" in 1949, he took over the chairmanship of the German Rider and Driver Association in 1964 , to which the amateur association had meanwhile developed. A few years later he was elected chairman of the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian (DOKR) and was also vice-president and sports advisor for 25 years and finally from 1991 to 1993 also president of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV).

For his services to equestrian sport, Capellmann was awarded the St. Georgs Medal of the Rhineland Equestrian Sports Association (PSVR) in 1967 and the PSVR's Grand Medal in 1983 .

Entrepreneurship

Through his mother Georgette Talbot, a sister of the wagon manufacturer Richard Talbot , Capellmann was also involved in the affairs of the Talbot wagon factory , since Richard had no male descendants. In 1975, Capellmann was entrusted as the successor to his uncle with the takeover of the wagon factory, which he headed as managing partner until it was transferred to the Canadian conglomerate Bombardier in 1995.

In November 1977, Capellmann was also one of the founding members of the Marketing Club Aachen, of which he was the first President for more than twelve years.

family

Kurt Capellmann was married three times, most recently to Helga Schirmer since 1956. With her he had the daughters Gina Capellmann-Lütkemeier and Nadine Capellmann , both of whom have become internationally outstanding dressage riders. His granddaughter Fabienne Lütkemeier is also aiming for an international riding career. Kurt Capellmann found his final resting place in the family crypt of the Talbot-Capellmann family in Aachen's Ostfriedhof .
