Richard Yancy

Richard Yancy (born January 31, 1979 in Berlin ) is a former German American football player and coach.

career

Yancy, son of a mother from Russia and a father from Liberia , played in the youth of the Berlin Bears from 1993, and in 1997 he made his debut in the Bundesliga with the Berlin Eagles . The Yancy used in defense in 1998 moved to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes , for which he was on the field until 2000. In 2000 he also made the leap to NFL Europe , where he played for Berlin Thunder (2000 and 2001) and Rhein Fire (2002 to 2007). With Berlin he celebrated winning the World Bowl in 2001 , with the Düsseldorf team he was also in the final of the NFL Europe in 2002 and 2003, but lost there each time.

He continued to play in the Bundesliga: with the Hamburg Blue Devils , he became German champions in 2001. For the 2002 season he returned to the Berlin Adlers. In summer 2004 he was part of the training squad of the NFL team San Francisco 49ers , in 2005 he took part in the training of the San Diego Chargers thanks to a support program from NFL Europe . In the summer of 2007, Yancy signed a contract with the New York Giants , but was removed from the roster in late August 2007. He did not play an NFL game in his career.

With the German national team, he was vice-European champion in 2000, European champion in 2001 and third in the world championship in 2003.

In 2008 Yancy switched to coaching and was involved in the offspring of the Berlin Rebels and the Frankfurt / Oder Red Cocks. In the 2009 and 2010 years he was in charge of the defensive backs of the Berlin Rebels men's team as an assistant coach , and from 2008 to 2010 he was also a member of the coaching staff of the Berlin-Brandenburg state team. In 2011 he took care of the Rebels offspring again, in 2012 he reinforced the defensive backs of the Berlin Adler in the top German division. In 2014 he contributed to winning the Eurobowl in this position .

For the 2015 season, Yancy accepted an offer from Austria's top division , the AFL , and was responsible for the defensive backs at the Swarco Raiders from Innsbruck under head coach Shuan Fatah . In the same role he worked for Innsbruck in the 2016 season.

Yancy went through pilot training.
