Richard von Elsner

Richard Waldemar Ludwig von Elsner (born November 20, 1913 in Wittenberge ; † October 27, 2003 ) was a German mechanical engineer and university professor .

Life

Richard von Elsner attended secondary school in Wittenberge, where he graduated from high school in 1933. After doing voluntary labor until the end of 1933, he did military service from early 1934 to October 1935. He then completed a one-year internship at Singer sewing machines in Wittenberge. In the winter semester of 1936 he began studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Danzig , at the beginning of which he became a member of the Tannenberg Comradeship and, in 1951, a member of the Corps Borussia Danzig. After interruptions due to military service and participation in the war from the summer semester of 1939 on, he graduated in April 1941 as a Dipl.-Ing. from.

After completing his studies, he returned to the war. In 1942 he became an engineer officer at the Kummersdorf Army Research Institute . Most recently he was first lieutenant in the reserve in the 5th Panzer Regiment. Awards he received were the Iron Cross II and I Class, the Infantry Assault Badge in silver and the Eastern Medal .

From mid-1945 to early 1949 he worked in Hamburg as a fitter , lathe operator and industrial technician . He then worked as operations manager at the machine factory and mill construction company Huckauf und Bülle GmbH in Hamburg-Altona. From October 1950 to January 1963 he was a lecturer at the Hamburg Engineering School . In 1955 he was promoted to the building officer in this position. In February 1963 he was appointed building director and head of the Wolfenbüttel State Engineering School, which he headed until 1971. At the beginning of this year he was appointed Senior Building Director. In 1973, the year he retired, he was appointed professor . At the end of his service life, the engineering school was converted into a technical college.

Honorary positions

Von Elsner was active in the VDI for over 65 years . In the Braunschweig district association he was a member of the board and advisory board for several decades. He was head of the technical history working group and worked in other various committees of the VDI main group.

He was chairman of the Society of Friends of TH Danzig eV
