The Richard Street is a street in the Berlin district of Neukoelln the district of the same .

Origin and origin of the name

The Richardstraße belonged as the Kirchgasse of the oldest streets of Bohemian-Rixdorf . The name Richardstrasse is probably derived from the name of a Knight Templar Richard .

In 1737, Friedrich Wilhelm I allowed the settlement of Bohemian exiles in Rieksdorf, who were expelled because of their Protestant belief . These supporters of the Moravian Brethren built their own church and settled in a separate area off the village green , along Richardstrasse. Farmhouses in the Brandenburg style characterize Richardstrasse. The entire building ensemble of the former Bohemian-Rixdorf is a Bohemian village under monument protection and is considered a cultural monument . The name of the street is derived from the former Richarsdorp farm (Richarstorp / Richardstorff) , which was converted into a village with 25 Hufen in 1360  .

course

Richardstraße runs from today's Karl-Marx-Straße (formerly: Berliner Straße ), from which it was spun off and which was therefore given a different route, via Richardplatz to Braunschweiger Straße. It begins as a densely built-up inner city street with tenement houses that mostly date from the end of the 19th century. In front of Richardplatz, the houses are getting smaller and form a small settlement with single-family houses and gardens, which together with the Comenius Garden form the building ensemble of the Bohemian Village of Rixdorf. On the southern side of Richardplatz, the street again forms a densely built-up city center street. The house numbers follow the principle of horseshoe numbering .

history

As part of the Richardstrasse trials (first trial from 1931, second trial from 1935), a total of 25 resistance fighters against National Socialism were convicted of the murder of the innkeeper Böwe in 1936 . B. Paul Jahnke was sentenced to death in absentia and Ferdinand Loll to 14 years imprisonment after an acquittal in 1931. In mid-October 1931 there was a dispute between guests and KPD supporters in the Richardsburg restaurant . These had attacked the restaurant, as the restaurant owner Böwe supported the SA and ran the facility as a storm restaurant . Böwe died of a ricochet and several guests of the restaurant were seriously injured.

In 1987 Maren Niemeyer made the film Die Richardstrasse in Neukölln .

From 1999 the street festival on Richardstraße was used for the 48 Hours Neukölln Festival . In 2005, the Richardstrasse art branch was set up for this purpose.

There is a stumbling block for Horst Kuss in front of house 49 and two stumbling blocks for Josef and Karoline Basch in front of house 86.
