Richart Reiche (born December 2, 1876 in Barmen (now a district of Wuppertal ), † July 11, 1943 in Düsseldorf ) was a German art historian .

Reiche first studied law and then art history . He finished his studies in 1903 with a doctorate in art history on the Paderborn Cathedral with Georg Dehio in Strasbourg . He then worked as an assistant to Paul Clemen in Bonn .

In 1907 Reiche became the curator of the Barmer Kunstverein and, in effect, the association's artistic director and exhibition curator . In the club gallery, Reiche organized several important exhibitions of modern art and helped many young, as yet unknown artists by conveying their works to collectors and other galleries and museums; this included u. a .: Franz Marc , Alexej von Jawlensky , Emil Nolde , Adolf Erbslöh , Marianne von Werefkin or August Macke . During his term of office, Barmen flourished as a place of expressionism . Before he left the position of curator at the Barmer Kunstverein, the latter owned one of the most important collections of modern art in Germany. In addition, Reiche was part of the board of the " Sonderbundes Westdeutscher Kunstfreunde und Künstler " in Düsseldorf.

At the end of 1931 he resigned from office in January 1932 and moved to Düsseldorf-Oberkassel . Personal differences with the administration of the city of Wuppertal , which was only founded in 1929, are to be regarded as a presumed reason for his resignation. After his departure, the Barmer Hall of Fame and the Elberfeld Museum Association were merged into the Wuppertal Municipal Museum . Afterwards Reiche worked as a consultant for the municipal picture gallery in Bochum .

Richart Reiche died during a bomb attack on Düsseldorf.

The Bergische Kunstgenossenschaft gives the honorary award to deserving artists - the Richart-Reiche-Plakette.
