biography

Rick Ferrell was an outstanding catcher in the American League who played in the Major Leagues for a total of 18 years. He made his debut on April 19, 1929 with the St. Louis Browns . At the end of his career he had played catcher games in 1806, a record that was only to be broken by Carlton Fisk in 1988. Other stations were the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Senators . For the Red Sox he then played together with his brother Wes Ferrell , who was also an extraordinarily strong batsman as a pitcher. Ferrell finished his career on September 14, 1947 with a batting average of 28.1%, 28 home runs and 738 RBIs. After his playing career, Ferrell remained loyal to baseball and worked as a coach for the Washington Senators. He later worked in the Detroit Tigers organization as a coach, scout and general manager . In 1984 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee . Ferrell died in 1995 at the age of 89.
