Rick Rockwell , real name Richard Scott Balkey (born October 26 or November 27, 1956 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American actor and screenwriter .

Life

Rockwell was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1956. He received his PhD from Pennsylvania State University, top of the class . He became known for his work as an actor in the Killer Tomato series. He also worked on the scripts for Attack the Killer Tomatoes (1978) and The Killer Tomatoes Strike Back (1990). He has also appeared in many US TV productions, comedy and talk shows, and TV commercials.

In 2000 he took part in a supposed reality show for the Fox Broadcasting Company called Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire? part, in which he played an unknown, willing to marry multi-millionaire, who could only be seen in silhouette behind a screen and selected a bride from among 50 applicants to marry her on the show. He married Darva Conger, a former emergency room nurse and former U.S. Air Force soldier from Carbondale , Illinois . She won the show and received a high-profile diamond ring and prizes worth $ 100,000. Afterwards, the fraud was exposed because an ex-girlfriend of Rockwell's at the time obtained a ban on contact against him for domestic violence, Rockwell married under his stage name, the couple spent their honeymoon in Barbados in separate rooms and the marriage ultimately never consummated. In addition, it was questioned that Rockwell was a multi-millionaire, Fox denied that his liquid assets amounted to 750,000 US dollars and that he had a total assets or value of just over 2 million US dollars at the time. Darva Conger filed for annulment of the marriage after the honeymoon . The marriage was then annulled on April 5, 2000, Darva Conger sold her wedding ring and prices through an internet auction house for charity. Over 22 million US citizens watched the show, after the real events became known, a great controversy broke out in the US and Fox decided not to repeat the show or to continue it. Rockwell wrote a book about his experiences called What was I thinking? - The truth about reality tv and modern media . They were later invited to the Larry King Live Talk Show in February 2001 and shared their experiences.
