Rick van der Linden

Rick van der Linden (born August 5, 1946 in Badhoevedorp , † January 22, 2006 in Groningen ) was a Dutch composer and keyboardist . He became known as the mastermind of Ekseption and later played for Trace , Mistral and Session. Van der Linden liked to combine classical and modern music , for example with works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven .

Life

Van der Linden went through high school in Haarlem and played the piano from the age of 13 . He has performed with various symphony orchestras and played works by various classical composers. In 1967 he studied at the Conservatory of The Hague with awards for piano, church organ , harmonics and counterpoint . He then became a lecturer at the Haarlem Conservatory.

With Ekseption van der Linden toured early 70s through Europe . Van der Linden was also successful with Trace . Then he made various solo albums with mainly classical works. As a guest, van der Linden played with greats such as Joachim Kühn , Deep Purple , Phil Collins , Vangelis , Jack Lancaster and Brand X and in the band Mistral (with Robbie van Leeuwen from Shocking Blue, among others ).

On November 19, 2005, Rick van der Linden suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on one side and died two months later on January 22, 2006. On January 27, 2006 he was buried in Hoogeveen.
