Rico Gubler

Rico Gubler (born January 12, 1972 in Richterswil ) is a Swiss saxophonist and university teacher .

Career

Gubler studied saxophone with Iwan Roth at the Basel Music Academy , with Marcus Weiss at the Zurich Conservatory (teaching diploma) and with Jean-Michel Goury at the CNR de Boulogne-Billancourt (Premier Prix à l'unanimité). Then he was saxophonist of the Collegium Novum Zurich and the chamber music group Cattrall . He had solo appearances at the Donaueschinger Musiktage , the Steirischer Herbst, Wien Modern , Salzburg Festival , ars musica Bruxelles , Musica Strasbourg , MärzMusik , eclat Stuttgart and the Munich Biennale . He also graduated from the law faculty of the University of Zurich . Since 2004, Rico Gubler has been teaching saxophone and chamber music at the Music Academy in Lugano ( conservatorio della svizzera italiana ).

Teaching

Rico Gubler is working together with Sascha Armbruster on a compendium for saxophone techniques (Saxapproach), which is a research project supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (DORE) in 2004/05 at the R&D department of the Lucerne University of Music .

With the decision of the University Senate on October 30, 2013, Rico Gubler became the new President of the Lübeck University of Music on March 1, 2014 . He thus succeeded Inge-Susann Römhild , who had headed the university since 1994.
