history

A small part of the Weitried, facing east

This chapel shrine was built in 1814 as a memorial (memorial chapel ) to the battle in Weitried in 1800 during the Second Coalition War .

Chapel building

The single-storey chapel shrine is a simple stone building freestanding on all sides with a gable height of 2.75 m and a rectangular basic shape with an area of around 3.75 m² and facing south-west / north-east. The chapel structure differs from an ordinary wayside shrine in that it is accessible or that it has a relevant spatial depth.

Access has been blocked by a grid for several years. There is no bell ridge on the gable roof, which is covered with plain tiles. The building itself is largely plastered in white .

The prayer room and the chancel are not separated from each other.

Furnishing

The decor is kept simple. The inscription below the memorial picture reads:

“You who pass by,
where this thinking chapel stands,
don't let your reading annoy you,
she is God, Mary, the sweet
virgin to her praise and the like. Prices
built here with all diligence.
A monument that one can still admire,
From the year eighteen hundred,
the 13th of July day
There was the French strike here.
The Rankweiler riflemen stood here to
valiantly protect the little country.
Your captain was von Brederis ,
Nachbaur, a noble man for sure.
He and his men resisted
from all sides like a lion.
But at last he came in danger
with his young band of heroes ,
For unnoticed with wrong steps,
Came up from the Frutz All
at once, oh, God have mercy,
A hostile swarm of riders
Then one saw the Rankweiler riflemen
Death flashing from a hundred swords,
Man saw that without cavalry
there was no salvation for them.
Already was her greatest evil.
The left wing from the right wing.
Completely cut off and as a reward
, death is already before your eyes.
It was no use asking. no complaining,
you had to prank and Endure sting
Until you finally dipped in the blood
you breathed out your ghosts. Eight noble warriors undauntedly
enjoyed the hero's death
.
All covered with the stream of blood
, she has mowed the sword.
In Meiningen they are buried
who died on the reed.
God gave them eternal rest,
and eternal light too.
O dear reader, let me tell you,
An Our Father for them,
