The Frutz is a 19 kilometer long river that flows westward through the Laternsertal, flows through the Üble Schlucht European protected area and flows into the Rhine near Koblach in the Feldkirch district .

At Sulz it merges with Frödisch . At Rankweil , the Mühlbach is artificially branched off, which is passed through the village for the fire brigade to take extinguishing water . Shortly before Meiningen the Mühlbach joins the Nafla and is then called Ehbach. At Koblach the Frutz is submerged by the Ehbach and both channels then flow separately into the Rhine.

Especially in the summer months, the section of the river between Rankweil and Koblach is partly dry or has little water.
