Brederis or Brädris (Vorarlbergerisch) is a district of Rankweil in Austria with about 1230 inhabitants. The local area extends from the A14 to the dog sports area and from the L52 to the Frutz .

geography

The limits of Brederis are not fixed and therefore controversial. In the vernacular, however, everything west of the Rheintal Autobahn is counted towards the village of Brederis and everything eastward belongs to Rankweil. The local area can be roughly divided into three parts: Dorf, Ried, Paspels. However, these are still split into several small districts. Paspels has about 855 inhabitants. Statistically, however, these are not assigned to Brederis, but form a separate census cluster.

In a clockwise direction, Brederis borders on: Koblach, Röthis, Sulz, Rankweil, Altenstadt, Gisingen & Meiningen.

history

Brederis was settled by the Romans and then called "Clunia". Remains of walls and hypocausts are preserved in the area of an open-air museum. The church of St. Anne was built in the 16th century. Saint Eusebius von Rankweil is said to have been beheaded at this point . In 1959 a new parish church, dedicated to St. Eusebius, was consecrated.

Brederis was an agricultural parcel for a long time and later a classic street village along the Schweizerstrasse. Brederis gained media attention in the 1990s through the numerous protests for a bypass, today's Landesstraße 52.
