The Riffelwandspitzen are two adjoining mountains in the Wetterstein Mountains , Bavaria . The summit of the Großer Riffelwandspitze reaches a height of 2626 m , the summit of the Kleine Riffelwandspitze 2543 m .
Location and surroundings
The Große and Kleine Riffelwandspitze are the two most striking peaks of the short Riffelwandkamm , which runs from the Zugspitze northeast towards the Waxensteinkamm.
The south walls drop steeply into the Höllentalkar , the north walls steeply down to the Riffelriß above the Eibsee . A ridge runs from the Großer Riffelwandspitze in a south-westerly direction to the Zugspitze. From the Kleine Riffelwandspitze , the Riffelwandkamm connects to the Waxensteinkamm via the Riffeltorkopf . A side ridge extends to the eastern Riffelkopf, the eastern wall of which drops vertically into the Höllental .
Bases and paths
The most favorable base for an ascent through the south walls is the Höllentalangerhütte ( 1381 m ). The routes on the north side are best reached from the Eibsee or via the Riffelriß stop of the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn .
The easiest route to the Kleine Riffelwandspitze leads from the Riffelscharte and the Riffeltorkopf over steep crags and gullies to the summit, difficulty level I (UIAA) .
The Great Riffelwandspitze was born on August 2, 1866 on the east ridge by F. Resch and C. Sam first ascent . They then managed to cross the first ridge to the Zugspitze from the summit. The route has a level of difficulty IV- and has long been considered the most difficult and dangerous route in the Wetterstein Mountains . The remaining routes range from levels of difficulty III to VII. All climbs can only be mastered by experienced and experienced mountaineers.
