The Höllentalangerhütte ( 1387  m above sea level ) is a managed hut of the Munich section of the German Alpine Club in the Wetterstein Mountains , belonging to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district . The hut in the narrow valley cut between Höllental -Biegen- and Waxenstein -Riffelwand-Kamm is open from the end of May to mid-October.

The previous building with 80 beds was demolished in September 2013 to make way for a completely new building. The replacement building of the Höllentalangerhütte was built in 2014 and 2015, the reopening took place on August 23, 2015.

history

Old Höllentalangerhütte

After the routes into the Höllental had been expanded in 1882 by the Munich Section of the German Alpine Club , it built the first Höllentalhütte in 1893/94. The log cabin offered 6 mattresses and 16 hay stores on an area of 40 m² and was opened on June 16, 1894. In 1907 a farm building was built below the hut, and in 1909 an attic was added by raising the roof. In 1924 a temporary barrack followed, which was replaced in 1925 by another extension, which was inaugurated on July 26, 1925. The previous buildings were connected to one another and the hut was given its last appearance until it was demolished in 2013. A power supply from a water turbine was also installed. In 1954 new washrooms and toilets were added and a sewage treatment plant was built. This lightweight extension was destroyed in the spring of 1963 by the air pressure of a dust avalanche and then rebuilt in solid construction. In 1964 a diesel generator replaced the small hydropower plant and since 1968 a material ropeway has supplied the hut. At last the hut offered 80 storage spaces.

As part of the complete demolition in 2013, the log house, the “original cell” of the hut, was initially stored, rebuilt in the outdoor area of the Alpine Museum in Munich and made accessible to the public in March 2017, including the historical furnishings.

New Höllentalangerhütte

From the perspective of the Alpine Club, a replacement building was unavoidable, as the Category I hut no longer complies with the current requirements for fire protection, workplace guidelines or the hygienic requirements of food law in essential points. Since the end of the 1990s, the replacement building with expanded overnight capacities and modern, environmentally friendly infrastructure has been planned and its cost is estimated at over 4.5 million euros.

The replacement building - with an unconventional monopitch roof instead of a gable roof - takes into account the great danger of avalanches in Höllental and the associated insurance requirements as well as the extensive official requirements regarding fire protection, workplace guidelines and the hygienic requirements of food law.
