Location and surroundings
The Riffeltorkopf marks the border between the Waxensteinkamm and the Riffelwandkamm . The summit plateau does not have a distinct summit character. It consists of a green dome, the walls of which break off vertically to the north and east. In the north lies the Eibsee , in the south runs the Höllental . The neighboring mountains are the Südliche Riffelspitze ( 2263 m ) in the northeast , the Kleine Riffelwandspitze 2536 m in the southwest and the Westliche Riffelkopf 2459 m in the southeast .
Bases and paths
The Riffelscharte located to the north forms a transition between the north and south sides of the Waxenstein ridge, it can be reached via marked hiking trails from the Eibsee or from the Höllental (partly insured as a via ferrata ). The Höllentalangerhütte ( 1381 m ) is one of the most important bases for climbing the mountain.
The normal route to the Riffeltorkopf leads from the Riffelscharte to the summit in about 15 minutes. The northeast face was first climbed in 1922 by M. Gämmler and K. Markert . The route has a level of difficulty V + (UIAA) . Other routes through the north face vary between difficulty levels V and VII.
