Rio Grande Blood is the tenth studio album of American industrial metal - band Ministry . It was released in the United States on May 2, 2006, and three days later, May 5, in Europe. The following year, the associated remix album, Rio Grande Dub Ya , was also released via 13th Planet Records.
style
On Rio Grande Blood , Ministry pursues the style that was already taken on the previous album Houses of the Molé - fast thrash guitars, fast drums, distorted vocals and samples are combined . The samples used are mainly modified excerpts from speeches etc. by US President George W. Bush .
Conception
Not only musically, but also in terms of content, the album continues seamlessly from its predecessor. It is the second release of the band, after the aforementioned Houses of the Molé from 2004 and before the last Ministry Studio release The Last Sucker from 2007, which deals intensively with the politics of the US government under the presidency George W. Bushs grapples.
The title is a corruption of the ZZ top album title Rio Grande Mud .
reception
David Jeffries describes the album in his review for Allmusic as the "second version of Houses of the Molé ", with the difference that Tommy Victor's influence makes the album more Thrash-heavy. Jeffries awards 3.5 out of 5 possible points for the album.
" The manipulated Bush samples and hate-filled revolution lyrics utilized on 2004's great Houses of the Molé are back, and if there's an easy way to differentiate that album from what is essentially Molé, Pt. 2, it's the contribution Prong guitarist Tommy Victor makes to this edition of Ministry, giving Rio Grande Blood a tauter crunch, a sharper thrash. "
In his review for laut.de , Michale Edele is consistently positive about the tenth Ministry album and awards 5 out of 5 possible points.
“ Rio Grande Blood” is in direct competition with “Psalm 69” and is at least equal to this album. "
