Rio Hondo (original title: Comanche blanco ) is a 1968 spaghetti western from Spanish production with American leading actors. The German-language premiere took place on June 9, 1972.

action

Notah and Johnny Moon are half-blood twins to an Native American mother. Because of their resemblance, Johnny is not just once held responsible for the crimes and atrocities of Notah, the "white Comaniac". He sees himself as a red Messiah who will save his tribe by fighting the whites. One day when these accusations become too much for him, Johnny decides to end the matter in a duel with his brother. As deputy sheriff of Rio Hondo, however, he can first of all settle the quarrels between the people of the saloon owner and a fanatical kofgeld hunter. When he is faced with his brother, he is wounded, but can still kill Notah. He rides into the sunset.

criticism

The work received a number of bad to devastating reviews. Robert Monell describes the film as "cheap and visually ugly", Michael Weldon as "ultra-cheap", and double-acting Shatner's performance is described as "incomprehensible and profoundly exaggerated".

Remarks

The film was shot in March 1967 while William Shatner was in Spain between shoots for Starship Enterprise .
