Víctor Israel (born Josep María Soler Vilanova ; born June 13, 1929 in Barcelona ; † September 19, 2009 ibid) was a Spanish actor of Catalan descent.

Life

His parents were Felip Soler and Rosalina Vilanova. Israel trained at the “Escuela de actores de la Ciudad Condal” and made her film debut in the early 1960s. He had his first major role in front of the camera in 1962 in the film Tierra de todos by Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi . In the same year he worked in the Western European film Bis zum Blut by Michael Carreras . He was seen in nearly 150 films, including Doctor Zhivago and 30 Westerns of European production, such as Two Glorious Scoundrels .

Israel worked as a character actor all his professional life ; his physiognomy with a small head, thin hair, crooked mouth and teeth predestined him for roles like weird loners , eerie characters in horror films - which make up a large part of his filmography - and strange padres . Until his death he played mainly in Spanish and Italian films. Israel was also a popular performer on television.
