Risa Niigaki ( Japanese新 垣 里 沙, Niigaki Risa ; born October 20, 1988 in Yokohama , Kanagawa Prefecture ) was a member and temporarily leader of the Japanese girl group Morning Musume . She became a member of Morning Musume through a casting in 2001, together with Asami Konno , Makoto Ogawa and Ai Takahashi , making her the fifth generation within the group. Risa made her debut on October 11, 2002. On May 18, 2012, she left the group with Aika Mitsui . With 10 years in the group, she is the longest member of the group.

Life

Risa Niigaki was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa in 1988, where she spent much of her youth. Before Morning Musume, she appeared in Takara Tomy commercials for a karaoke machine. In 2001, together with Asami Konno, Makoto Ogawa and Ai Takahashi, she managed to convince producer Tsunuku to become part of Morning Musume. She made her debut on the number one single Mr. Moonlight (Ai no Big Band) along with her three new colleagues. She made her album debut with 4th Ikimasshoi! (2002).

As part of Morning Musume, she also became a member of various subgroups. She belonged to the third generation of Tanpopo , which only lasted one year. With this she released only one single. In 2003 she became a member of Morning Musume Sakuragumi , with whom she released two singles.

In 2002 she made her screen debut with the drama Tokkaekko m in which the other members of Morning Musume also starred .

In 2007 she became a member of Morning Musume Tanjō 10nen Kinentai , a band project that celebrated Morning Musume's tenth birthday, along with Kaori Iida , Natsumi Abe , Maki Goto and Koharu Kusumi . With them she released two singles and became a sub-leader of the formation.

In October 2007, Niigaka replaced Nozomi Tsuji in the anime series Robby & Kerobb. At the same time she became a member of Athena & Robikerottsu , another Hello! Project that created the music for the anime.

She played the Prince in Morning Musume's version of Richard Rodgers' and Oscar Hammerstein's version of Cinderella . In 2009 she played with Morning Musume at the Anime EXPO in Los Angeles. In the same year she became a member of ZYX-α , with which she was active for three years.

In 2011 Niigaki became the leader of Morning Musume. By then she had already broken the record of Kaori Iida and, along with Takahashi, was the only member who remained a member for more than eight years. Takahashi left the group, however, in the same year, which Niigaki was able to expand their record. In 2012 she finally left the group (together with Aika Mitsui) after a concert in Nippon Budokan and handed over the leader position to Sayumi Michishige . So she was in the group for over 10 years.

Private life

Risa Niigaki dated actor and singer Yoshikazu Kotani from 2013 to 2018. The couple married on July 11, 2016, but divorced on January 6, 2018.
