Rita Schulz

Rita Schulz (born March 13, 1961 in Dortmund , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German astrophysicist .

Life

Schulz studied physics and chemistry at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1987 she received her diploma in physics. In 1991 she received her diploma in chemistry and her Dr. rer. nat. with a focus on astrophysics. From 1992 to 1993 Schulz studied comet science as part of the ESA External Fellowship at the University of Maryland .

After working at the Max Planck Institute for Aeronomy in Lindau from 1994 to 1996 , she switched to the European Space Agency (ESA), for which she has been working since 1996. From 1996 to 2004 Schulz was deputy project manager for Mission Rosetta . In addition, she was the project manager of the BepiColombo mission from 2003 to 2006 and has been the project manager of the Rosetta mission since 2006.

2002 habilitation them at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen in astrophysics and teaches since then as lecturer at this university. She published more than 270 scientific publications . The asteroid (8640) Ritaschulz was named after her in 2000.

Schulz is married and has two children.
