The River Frome is a river in the English county of Dorset .
River Frome is the name of several rivers in south west England. The name comes from Old English and means something like "active" or "good" in German.
The river has its source in the village of Evershot , whose inhabitants re-edged the source near St Osmund's Church in 2000. The river initially flows south. The River Hooke joins the Frome at the village of Maiden Newton . The Frome then flows through Dorchester , where it changes direction to the east. The Frome runs on the southern edge of Wareham . On the eastern edge of Wareham, the River Piddle flows into the mouth of the Frome. The estuary of the two rivers is known as the Wareham Channel and is part of Poole Harbor , which was formed, among other things, by the washout of the Frome.
