The Rivière Joir (in Newfoundland and Labrador : Joir River ) is a 135 km long left tributary of the Rivière du Petit Mécatina in the south of the Labrador Peninsula in the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Québec . The river is named after Abbé Joir, a clergyman who served in several missions and parishes along the coast of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in New Brunswick in the 18th century .

River course

The river has its origin in a 460  m high lake not far from the Trans-Labrador Highway ( Route 510 ) 80 km south-southeast of Happy Valley-Goose Bay . It flows in a predominantly south-southwest direction. The last 9 kilometers are in the province of Québec. The Rivière Joir finally flows into the Rivière du Petit Mécatina.

Hydrology

The mean discharge 38 km above the mouth is 42.9 m³ / s. The highest mean monthly discharge occurs in June with 99.8 m³ / s. The catchment area covers about 3100 km².
