Chutes de Sainte-Ursule

The Rivière Maskinongé is a left tributary of the Saint Lawrence River in the Lanaudière and Mauricie administrative regions of the Canadian province of Québec .

The Rivière Maskinongé has its origin in Lac Maskinongé on the slopes of the Laurentine Mountains . It flows mainly in a southerly direction through the MRC D'Autray and Maskinongé . There are three layers along the course of the river. The most important of the three is overcome by the Rivière Maskinongé using the rapids of the Chutes de Sainte-Ursule . The river has a gradient of 45 m on a river stretch of 400 m. The municipality of Maskinongé is located on the lower reaches of the river. The Rivière Maskinongé finally flows into the western end of Lac Saint-Pierre opposite the island of Île à l'Aigle . The river has a length of 50 km. It drains an area of ​​1140 km². The mean discharge is 20 m³ / s.

Maskinongé is the French name for the muscle lung , a North American pike species.
