The Roßbergbahn is the railway line that went into operation on June 21, 1904 between the town of Roßberg, which is now incorporated into Wolfegg, and the town of Bad Wurzach . It is 10.99 kilometers long and branches off the Herbertingen – Isny ​​railway in Roßberg .

history

Since the line could not initially be operated economically, it was intended to be shut down as early as 1927. But it was not until September 29, 1963 until the German Federal Railways the passenger was established. On December 21, 2002 the line was closed for freight traffic , but was reactivated for this in 2003. In 2003, Deutsche Bahn AG was no longer willing to pay for the maintenance of the infrastructure, so that the city of Bad Wurzach was forced to take over the route by buying it. It has therefore been operated by the city as a railway infrastructure company since 2004 , using the Württembergische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (WEG) as a service provider.

As a railway company , Bayerische Cargo-Bahn GmbH (a former subsidiary of Captrain Germany ) ensured the supply of the Saint Gobain Oberland AG with the raw materials soda and quartz sand from August 2003 . In August 2012, Stock-Transport GmbH from Mainz took over this traffic until it was shifted to the road at the end of 2016, so that the railway line has not had any freight traffic since then. Since the beginning of 2018, some of the transport services have been provided by rail again. The section between the glassworks and the end of the line is also used for shunting work.

Verallia Deutschland AG (formerly Saint Gobain Oberland AG) as well as the city of Bad Wurzach and the district of Ravensburg , in which the line runs , are mainly involved in covering the operating cost deficit of the Roßbergbahn .

Since 4 July 2010, the resulting DB ZugBus regional traffic Alb Bodensee GmbH (RAB) on behalf of Upper Swabia Verkehrsverbund the selected Sundays a year SPNV with five pairs of trains every two hours through. The trains run from Bad Wurzach to Aulendorf, Halts are Bad Wurzach, Bad Waldsee and Aulendorf. Class 650 vehicles are used ; class 628 railcars were previously used. Occasionally, special trains went on special events beforehand. Since 2018 the trains have been running under the name "Moorbahn" and every Sunday and public holiday between May and October, previously they only ran every two weeks.

In the course of the electrification work on the Allgäu Railway , the Roßberg station, which is otherwise unused for passenger traffic, was used as a transfer point between rail replacement traffic and the scheduled rail connections. In May 2019, two freight cars jumped off the tracks during a shunting run in Roßberg.
