Robert Allenby (born July 12, 1971 in Melbourne ) is an Australian golf professional .

Career

Allenby became a professional golfer in 1992 and was quickly successful. He won the money list of the PGA Tour of Australasia in the first year and a second time in 1994. In total, he has won thirteen tournaments in that series so far.

Allenby also played the European Tour until 1998 and recorded four wins, three of them in 1996, when he was third on the money list. An even better placement prevented a serious car accident in Spain in October, in which Allenby suffered a fractured sternum and facial injuries, which kept him away from the tournament for a long time.

Since 1999 his main focus has been the North American PGA TOUR , where he won his first two tournaments in 2000. In the following year he also had two victories. After that, Allenby remained without tournament success, but consistently achieved good results and was among the top 50 of the golf world rankings until 2011 .

In the majors , apart from 7th places at the US Open 2004 and the Open Championship 2008, he has not yet achieved anything. Allenby has been called up to the international team five times for the Presidents Cup .

A long-time friend is his fellow countryman and golf colleague Stuart Appleby , whom he has known from mutual amateur days.
