Robert Basic (born November 3, 1966 in Zagreb ; † November 2, 2018 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German blogger and journalist . The Basic Thinking blog he founded in 2003 was one of the first popular German-language network diaries. Basic received special attention - also internationally - in 2009. Back then, he auctioned his blog on the eBay auction platform for almost 47,000 euros .

Life

Robert Basic first lived in Croatia and emigrated to Germany with his family in 1970 when he was young. He studied business administration and worked at Deutsche Bank until 2002 . With the tech blog Basic Thinking , founded in 2003, he was one of the first German-speaking bloggers. The British daily The Guardian counted Basic Thinking in 2008 as one of the 50 most influential blogs worldwide. After selling Basic Thinking , Basic started the Buzzriders project . Since the original idea of ​​building a decentralized local news and communication platform could not be implemented, Buzzriders became the official website of Basic.

In terms of content, Robert Basic concentrated on technology topics , in particular on the future of mobility and the trend towards mobile devices . He worked as a freelance writer, consultant and speaker. As an author, he was active on numerous of his own channels. He has also worked for media such as Computer Bild as well as for corporate customers. From August 2018 Robert Basic was part of the editorial team of the blog platform mobilegeeks.de .

Robert Basic was the father of two children. He last lived in Frankfurt am Main , where he died in November 2018 one day before his 52nd birthday as a result of a heart attack .
